Keynote Talk: West Angeles Church Graduation Ceremony

I am honored to have received an invitation to serve as the keynote speaker for a June 9th ceremony honoring high school graduates from West Angeles Church.  I will construct my talk around the theme of the ceremony: " Game Changers: Youth Who Help Improve Life".  I am excited for this opportunity, and hope to inspire the graduates in a powerful way.

Choosing A Major Workshop: West Angeles Church

A couple of weekends ago, I led a workshop for the high school seniors of West Angeles Church around choosing a college major.  I was privileged to have a number of parents in attendance.  Very good group to speak to - very engaged and great questions.  I have to give major kudos to Deacon John Wilson who heads up the Church's education ministry - he has done tremendous work with the youth and their parents on college and career preparation.  I look forward to continuing my work with him and the Church.

Career & College Prep Workshops: Heart of Los Angeles

In April I led a series of career and college prep workshops for high school seniors affiliated with a non-profit, Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA).  We particularly focused on identifying careers via one's personality type and how to choose a college major.  The students were very engaged and had great questions.  I also enjoyed continuing to work with HOLA's alumni program contact, Andrea Cova.

Creation Of Networking Group (On LinkedIn)

Recently created a LinkedIn group: "Campus Recruiter & Career Counselor Collaborative".  The group is intended to foster an on-going exchange between corporate campus recruiters and college career services staff for the following purposes:

1) To effectively equip college students with the required skills to meet the changing and growing demands of employers.
2) To successfully prepare college students for a smooth transition into the world of full-time work.
3) To create and strengthen partnerships which mutually support the objectives of employers and career services offices.

We are currently at 21 members.  Looking forward to the growth of the group and some great information exchanges.

Diversity Recruiting Brief For Campus Recruiters

A couple of days ago, I created a diversity recruiting brief ("Access & Diversify: Sourcing Diverse College Talent Through College Access Organizations") for the benefit of campus recruiters. The brief essentially makes the case for utilizing college access organizations to source diverse college talent.  A sample of the content: 1) what college access organizations are; 2) why college access organizations are great for sourcing diverse college talent; 3) where to identify college access organizations. I have already received some positive feedback on the document (including a potential opportunity to speak on the topic at a conference in the summer).
